This review is for The Old Salty Dog Siesta Key location. This is a laid back restaurant and pub that screams “beach”! There is outside seating with wooden tables. Doggies are welcome 🙂
Apparently years ago it was an old hot dog and beer stand. It is the home of the loaded “Salty Dog” hot dog that was featured on the travel channel’s show Man vs. Food, so I wasn’t exactly sure what would be on the menu for me.
The menu has the following options to choose from if you want to eat healthy and plant-based: garden salad, black bean veggie burger and sides of rice, dinner salad, vegetable medley and possibly the parsley potatoes (check what is in these).
I had the black bean veggie burger (I do not know if it is vegan). You can ask for it on whole wheat bread and I jazzed up the nutrition (and taste) by adding sautéed mushrooms on top for a small charge. You may also add sautéed onions if you like them.
I give the burger a thumbs up for taste and am glad that such a bar-like restaurant offers something for the non-meat eater that isn’t fried. If you want to make sure there isn’t any dairy in the burger patty you’ll have to contact the restaurant.
