The Harvest Thyme Cafe has two locations in Gainesville – one downtown and a brand new one in the northwest area of town, at Magnolia Parke. I hadn’t been before but stopped in the new location to get something quick to eat.
The menu has an entire “Veggie Lovers” section that is all vegetarian and some is vegan. I was staring at the board trying to figure out what vegan option I wanted when the manager handed me a green plastic menu that had all the vegan options on it. This included substitutions on selections that aren’t originally vegan as well as what breads/soups were vegan. It is really thoughtful, and that way you don’t have to mentally substitute/change items on your own, guess or ask a lot of questions about how the food is prepared. They made me a photocopy of the vegan menu to take home; ask for one for yourself!
I ended up picking the Sweet & Smoky BBQ Tempeh Wrap (no cheese). The wrap includes tempeh with fresh pineapple, bbq sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, sprouts, and carrots rolled in a sundried tomato tortilla. As my side I was able to get fresh fruit which was nice.
It was pretty good. For me, it was a little dry and I would have liked more sauce. The Tempeh and Hummus wrap would probably be a little less dry and I love that their black bean burger is vegan.
Overall, Harvest Thyme Cafe prepares fresh, healthy food that is a great option to have for a quick meal. I love that they are so mindful of their vegan patrons that they have a separate vegan menu!
