A Lowcountry Backyard Restaurant – Hilton Head, South Carolina

On our last day in Hilton Head we decided that since we’d eaten at the #1 and #2 restaurants in town (according to TripAdvisor), why not try #3? That brought us to A Lowcountry Backyard for a late lunch. We went mid-bike ride and were famished when we got there. The feel was casual and family friendly, very different from the other top rated restaurants. I’d describe the menu generally as Southern. Happily, there were many vegetarian options. I picked the Southern Belle Salad with blackened tofu – mixed greens with sunflower seeds, mandarin oranges, tomatoes, sweet onion and Feta cheese with a side of Raspberry vinaigrette. It was really good, but… I admit I didn’t completely stick with healthy here. I was unable to resist the Fried Green Tomato Stack, which is one of their specialties. I swear it was calling my name! Check out the picture below.

If we are in town again I will have to try Susie Q’s Blackened Tofu Melt sandwich or maybe Nancy’s Fresh Tomato Sandwich.
